When Is The Last Time You Took A Vacation?


Vacations AT YOUR DESK are important, whether that’s in the form of stretching, a SUPERCHARGED® dance break, or just getting up and going for a walk.

And as Kwanza pointed out above, actual vacations are super important too, to recharge both your body and spirit.

You’d think we wouldn’t need a reminder of this fact – ya know, that vacations are frickin’ awesome.

HELLLLLO, palm trees + bubbles + sunshine + smiles + new places = HEAVEN on earth.

Disturbingly, we Americans do very much need that reminder. Did you know that, especially in recent years, Americans have taken less and less vacation?

Look how sad this is:

CNN Money shed some light on this trend too: “Close to 60% of workers aged 18 to 25 report they won’t use all of their allotted vacation days this year, while 25% won’t use any of their time off.”

That’s not just disturbing.

That’s just downright SAD.

We get it. Work is important. Feeling respected at your job is important. Paying bills is important, sure; all that’s great, true, and necessary. But there’s nothing enlightened or respectable about not giving your mind – and your entire life – the boost it needs from time to time. Everyone benefits when we’re happy.

Contrary to what many would have us believe, we are not nuclear-powered robots. We shouldn’t aspire to be robots who never stop working either. Why on earth is that admirable? We weren’t born to only make money and help grow a company.

Our dear friends, NOPE.

We are humans. We are explorers, inventors, dreamers, creators, and we most definitely get burnt out if we don’t take a break – whether that’s throughout the day while at work, or via a well-earned vacation to somewhere new.

Take it from us. When you look at your health, mind, and even your productivity in a more holistic way, you’ll be better off in the long run. And if you can’t take a long vacation, just take a short one then! It’s still good.  

As NPR reported, “Employee health and well-being improve even during short vacations. That has led scientists studying workplace stress to urge people to take shorter vacations throughout the year if they feel they can’t manage a week or two all at once.”

Get out there, dance, party, vacation, explore!
